Alcanta Vocational School is located in Guangzhou, Guangdong province (also called Canton), a thriving metropolis at the centre of the Pearl River Delta with a booming economy and diverse culture. Guangzhou’s recent hosting of the 2010 Asian Games has left the city with a fresh sense of dynamism and prosperity. Alcanta School is located next to Baiyun Mountain in the northern part of the city, which provides a pleasant natural setting and clean, fresh air. A new subway line opened near Alcanta last year, making getting around the city convenient and easy for those at the school. With 1900 students, 113 staff members and 8 foreign teachers, our workforce is comprised of individuals from many backgrounds and countries, making Alcanta a “First Class International School”. Our students study English and other subjects over three-year course programs which aim to enhance their communicative language abilities. For foreign teachers, our requirements are as follows:

1. Native speakers of English (US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand)
2. European with BA in English are welcome as well
3. Bachelor degree (BA or BS) or above
4. Teaching certificate preferred
5. At least two years teaching experience
6. Committed, responsible and professional
6. Good presentation and interpersonal skills
7. Available for a six-month or one-year contract
8. Below 60 years of age (experienced older persons will also be considered)

Basic requirements of full-time foreign English teachers at Alcanta Vocational School:

 Teaching 20 forty-five-minute periods per week on average to high-school-aged students (16-18 years old)
 Preparing oral English lessons based on the Interchange English learner textbooks
 Attending English Corner one hour every week (on Wednesday evenings)
 Attending meetings and teacher workshops as scheduled during the term
 Teaching in the school’s summer camp
